Modifying an Arrangement on Phone
Mr Smith: Good morning, this is Mr Joe Smith. Is that you, Mr Brown?
Mr Brown: Yes, Mr James Brown. Hello Mr Smith, what can I do for you?
Mr Smith: Well, we spoke earlier this week and we’ve arranged a business meeting for 12 o’ clock tomorrow. Is that right?
Mr Brown: Yes, Friday at 12. Is there a problem with the time?
Mr Smith: Actually there is. Some unexpected problems have occurred in my company which need to be dealt with urgently. I’m not sure I could get to the meeting point in time. Would you mind modifying the appointment and meeting an hour later?
Mr Brown: The thing is that I’m only free till 1.30 on Friday, so there’s not much point in meeting at 1 then. What about Monday at noon?
Mr Smith: That would be fine. Same place?
Mr Brown: Yes, Peter’s café. See you on Monday then.
Mr Smith: See you. And thank you for your understanding.

Making an Arrangement on Phone
Mr Brown: Good morning, this is James Brown. I’d like to talk to Mr Joe Smith.
Mr Smith: Joe Smith speaking. Hello Mr Brown. How can I help you?
Mr Brown: I’d like to arrange a business meeting with you for the next week. When should it be appropriate for you?
Mr Smith: A business meeting next week… let me see my agenda… Well, as the matter of fact, I’m already booked full for the next week – no, no, I’m free at lunchtime on Friday. Sometime between 11 and 2? Does that fit in with your plans?
Mr Brown: That sounds perfect. I happen to be free on Friday between 11.30 and 1.30. So we could make and appointment for 12 o’clock. Peter’s café maybe?
Mr Smith: Perfect choice. I’ve put it down. See you on Friday at 12 then.
