There are two main styles of CV, with variations within them.
In the chronological type information is included under general headings - education, work experience, etc., with the most recent events first.
The so called targeted type is written in a way that highlights skills, qualifications and experience that match the requirements of the advertised position. Writing a targeted CV is effective when you know the requirements of a particular position or you are sending your CV in reply to a specific job advert.
A resume is a one or two page summary of your education, skills, accomplishments, and experience. Your résumé’s purpose is to get your foot in the door. The main difference between a CV and a Resume is brevity. If you are applying for jobs in the US, recruiters will scan your CV for less than thirty seconds. US recruiters do not like lengthy job descriptions and personal profiles.
In the US, more than in other countries, time is money and recruiters do not have the time to spend long minutes reading your life history, so your resume should be a teaser, the hook, pass on the essential information. Do not go into lengthy descriptions of how you saved your previous employer from bankruptcy.

Even having taken the above points into account, writing your own CV can often be a daunting and time-consuming task. But with a professionally written CV you can make a powerful first impression.
Employers receive hundreds of resumes and cover letters a week, and each time you send your resume to an employer it will be carefully measured against those other applicants. So you have to deliver a product that will attract you to them within a very short period of time, sometimes only 10-15 seconds.
Many CVs simply aren't compiled with forethought and logic –that’s what recruitment specialists think in connection with what makes a CV really stand out among the many, and how to leave a professional impression.
Layout is very important. It's easier to read skills and experience that have been bullet pointed.
Seventy per cent of the CVs are too long. Two pages are sufficient to make the right impression and secure an interview. Some people just reel out lengthy text which is unlikely to be read.
People tend to puff up their CV with nonsense and meaningless words. Phrases such as 'team player' make no impression if they're not backed up with examples.
Work experience is the first thing people tend to look at, so you must spell out what skills you have, transferable or otherwise.
Apart from all the above mentioned rules don’t forget that originality is always a good way to present a CV because it shows personality.
Finally, having a professionally written CV is just the first step towards getting the desired job. For more employers it's much more important to meet face to face and start talking to the person because that's when they can discover your real skills.

An employer may have several hundred enquiries about a single job, he or she will only choose a few people who appear suitable for interview.
Always be honest, do not write anything in your CV that you would not feel comfortable talking about at an interview.
The CV should be accurate and correct.
Your contact information should be clearly visible on the first page of the CV.
Your CV should be typed in a easy-to-follow format, i.e. the headlines should be indented and highlighted so as to catch the attention of the reader easily (this is very helpful when a person wants to get a fast look at your CV)
Keywords are a powerful tool in your CV and should be used. Use keywords to summarize your experience. Keywords will also help ensure that your CV comes up when employers search in their CV databases.
Always include a letter of introduction with your CV, especially if you are not delivering by hand.
Never sign your CV, it’s not required.
Get someone who is not related to you to read through your CV. Ask them for honest feedback and react to the suggestions they make.
