Buying a Fridge on Easy Terms
Assistant: Can I help you?
Customer: Yes please. I would like to enquire after the credit facilities regarding this fridge.
Assistant: Well, there are two instalment plans. One is for shorter term with higher instalments, and the other is obviously a long-term one.
Customer: I would like to know about both.
Assistant: Sure. The short-term instalment plan is for six months. The initial payment is half of the purchase price. The second half of the price is evenly divided into six instalments to be paid monthly.
Customer: Is there an interest on the instalments?
Assistant: Well, the good news is that there is no interest on the short-term plan.
Customer: What about the long-term plan?
Assistant: It is for three years. You can even start it with zero initial payment. The rest is in turn evenly divided into 16 instalments to be paid monthly. The interest rate on it is 5% at present.
Customer: Thank you!
Assistant: Well, the whole thing depends on how much you may afford to pay now.
Customer: Well, I definitely do not have as much as half of the purchase price now, but I do not want to owe much money.
Assistant: May I suggest you to pay then 25% of the purchase price now? That would leave you with a comparatively low monthly amount to be paid.
Customer: That is a good idea, thank you!
Assistant: You are welcome. I go and fetch the credit agreement form.

Helping Parents at the Sports Store
Mr Green: Do you have any idea, darling?
Mrs Green: Well, he’s so small. We would need the smallest possible bike.
Mr Green: But he is going to grow soon. Shall we buy a little bigger one?
Mrs. Green: Do you think we would need the extra balancing wheels?
Mr Green: Maybe, but…
Assistant: Excuse me, can I help you?
Mrs Green: Well, yes. We’d like to buy a bicycle for our son. He’s only four now.
Assistant: Is this going to be his first bike?
Mr Green: Yes. Do you think we should buy the smallest size?
Assistant: It depends on how tall your son is.
Mrs Green: Well, he’s pretty big. Almost 40 inches.
Assistant: A big boy! I would suggest the Schwinn Baby model. Here it is. It very versatile. It sort of grows with the kid. This is what it looks like when it’s the smallest. It may be exactly your son’s size. And can you see that one over there?
Mr&Mrs Green: Oh, yes.
Assistant: That is the very same model, set at its biggest size.
Mrs Green: Great. It seems it will last at least until he is ten.
Assistant: Possibly. And it’s not even that bad, from a financial point of view; if you consider that it’s a long-time enterprise.
Mr Green: How much is it?
Assistant: It’s £100.
Mr Green: Not that bad. We’ll take it.
Assistant: I go to the store room to get one. Just a few minutes please.

Serving a Regular Customer
Assistant: Good afternoon, Mr Kent. Good to see you again! Do you need anything for your restaurant? We have brand-new cost-saving ovens.
Mr Kent: Thanks, Mr Farley. I would actually need a 240-litre fridge. The old one is completely broken. Well, it has served its time.
Assistant: Yes, I remember when you bought it at our shop about fifteen years ago.
Mr Kent: Eighteen exactly. Well, time flies. But as for the new fridge, I saw a Whirlpool 354 in your catalogue, but I cannot find it in here.
Assistant: Oh, yes, I guess we have only one left. It is in the store room. It’s waiting for you. I’ll get it.
Mr Kent: But Mr Farley, it’s a heavy item! And you are not getting any younger.
Assistant: Don’t ever worry, Mr Kent. We have a brand-new trolley. One can even lift heavier items with it. I’ll be back in a few minutes with your fridge.
Mr Kent: Thank you then, Mr Farley.
Assistant: No problem, Mr Kent.
