Television Screens in the Shop Window
Marketing Manager: Well, I’d like to ask you to do one more thing about this shop window.
Window Dresser: Yes, please. Tell me what else I should do.
Marketing Manager: I’d like you to put two television screens in the shop window.
Window Dresser: Yes, and why would you like me to do it? I mean, what are you going to show on the screens?
Marketing Manager: On one of these screens, I’d like to show our best-selling products day and night in order to attract the attention of passers-by.
Window Dresser: I see. And how about the other screen?
Marketing Manager: On the other screen I want to show items that are on the bargain counter at the moment.
Window Dresser: It sounds like a good idea!

The Role of Televisions Screens in Increasing Sales
Sales Manager: How many screens do you think we should place in the area of the shop?
Marketing Manager: In my opinion we should have four television screens at four different points of the shop.
Sales Manager: And what are we going to show the customers on the screens?
Marketing Manager: I think on the four screens above the shop area we should show various items that we are discounting at the moment. Research in this field has shown that it may increase sales of certain items by as much as 900%.
Sales Manager: Well, it sounds very convincing. I hope it’ll work in this case, too!
Marketing Manager: So do I!

Choosing Methods for Window Dressing
Marketing Manager: Well, Mr Brown, I think we should go through the main points concerning the parameters of an attractive shop window again.
Shop Owner: That’s true. You know a graphic designer and a window dresser are coming tomorrow. So it’s high time we decided what to do.
Marketing Manager: First, we should think of attractive notices and slogans. Secondly, we should think of lighting whose quality might be extremely important, as well.
Shop Owner: What do you think we should focus the notices and slogan on?
Marketing Manager: In my opinion, we should focus on the healthy image of the store. For example, listen to this notice: ‘Have you tried our organic food? Try some. Please, lead a healthy way of life.’
Shop Owner: And how about this slogan? ‘Be as sound as a bell!’
Marketing Manager: Yes, that could be a very good one, too! Well, I think we should build up the whole thing on these two things!

At the Toy Shop
James (10-year-old boy): You know, Daddy, I’ve got some news for you: Charles has got a new toy motorway.
Father: Oh, really. That must have cost a lot of money!
James: Can you see this shop window? I think we should stop here and have a look at it!
Father: All right. But why?
James: Can you see that toy motorway over there?
Father: Yes, I can. What about it?
James: Could we go inside and have a look at it?
Father: But we’re in a hurry, James!
James: Did you know that my maths test was the best in our class? I was the only one to get a Grade A.
Father: Really? Congratulations! All right, let’s go inside and have a look at this motorway. Actually, I know what your hidden motives have been for telling me about this maths test.

Window Shopping at the Toy Shop
Mother: Well, I think I should buy something for Ann. She’s having her birthday this weekend. The only problem is that I’m not sure what I should buy her. She’s going to be 11 this year. More and more often I feel that she’s more like a little woman. She’s definitely grown out of playing boyish games; so I can’t buy her a toy shield with a sword. Furthermore, she’s a bit long in the tooth for playing with dolls. Consequently, dolls are out of the question. Well, I feel a board game might be the best choice. She’s very good at expressing herself verbally. I think ‘Articulate!’ is a board game that she might like a lot!
