Rescheduling a Business Dinner
Mr Henry: Central Associates, George Henry.
Mr James: Good afternoon, Mr Henry, this is Cedric James from James&Co Sales Ltd.
Mr Henry: Can help you with anything, Mr James?
Mr James: Yes, please. I am terribly sorry, but I have to propose a rescheduling of tomorrow’s dinner. It has turned out that my wife received two invitation cards form the Secretary of State for Business, to tomorrow’s exclusive house-warming party. I regret to say it that late; I hope it does not turn over your schedule completely.
Mr Henry: No, not at all, Mr James. If you have duties, those have to be fulfilled. Do you by any chance have another date in mind?
Mr James: The day after tomorrow would be suitable for me. I can’t wait to try The Cherry Flower’s specialties.
Mr Henry: I believe so. What about the day after tomorrow, same time, same place then? Is it appropriate for you?
Mr James: Certainly. Thank you for your flexibility.
Mr Henry: This is just natural, Mr James. See you then in two days’ time.
Mr James: See you.

Inviting the Business Partner to a Japanese Restaurant
Mr James: Hello, James&Co Sales Ltd, Cedric James speaking.
Mr Henry: Good morning, Mr James, it’s George Henry from Central Associates.
Mr James: Ah, Mr Henry, I have not forgotten our appointment on Thursday evening.
Mr Henry: I am glad to hear that. Actually, my present call regards that meeting.
Mr James: Go ahead, Mr Henry, I am listening.
Mr Henry: Well, Mr James, I was just wondering if you cared for a dinner rather than meeting at the office.
Mr James: It sounds marvellous. What kind of dinner do you have in mind?
Mr Henry: Well, since our company is predominantly in Japanese possession, I would be glad to acquaint you with Japanese cuisine a little bit.
Mr James: That sounds appealing. I have always liked exotic food.
Mr Henry: Then I am sure The Cherry Flower will not disappoint you.
Mr James: The Cherry Flower? I heard a lot about their exquisite services.
Mr Henry: See you then tomorrow at 8 pm there, Mr James. Our car will be at your office to pick you up at half past seven.
Mr James: Thank you very much. See you then!

Refusing a Dinner Invitation
Miss Pringle: General Press, Jemima Pringle speaking.
Mr Jacobs: Good afternoon, Miss Pringle, this is Harvey Jacobs from Jacobs&Son. I hope you did not forget our appointment on Friday.
Miss Pringle: Of course not, Mr Jacobs, how can I?
Mr Jacobs: I am glad to hear that. Well, Miss Pringle, I just was just wondering if you preferred a restaurant as a meeting place instead of the office where you spend most of your day. Would you mind if we mowed the location of the business meeting to Le Royal?
Miss Pringle: That sounds very appealing, Mr Jacobs, and I am thankful for your generous invitation; still I am afraid I will not be able to accept it.
Mr Jacobs: I am sad to hear that.
Miss Pringle: I do not want to disappoint you by any means. The truth is that I have severe food allergies. I have to live on a strict diet of special food that I make for myself. I am really sorry to spoil your otherwise great idea.
Mr Jacobs: No, Miss Pringle, do not apologize. Your reasons are fairly comprehensible. See you then at your office tomorrow.
Miss Pringle: See you then.
