The Text on Flyers (Contents)
Lecturer (lecturing participants at an in-service training): Today we are going to deal with the wording of flyers.
Participant: We are eager to learn about this topic. Could you tell us about it, please?
Lecturer: Yes, of course. As all of you may know, besides the design, the words are also very important if we want our flyers to become a success story.
Participant: What are some of the things that we must consider when making a new flyer?
Lecturer: It’s important to bear in mind that a flyer is not identical with a business card. In case of flyers, we focus on the product and the advantages of buying such a product.
Participant: Whose job do you think it should be to decide on the text printed on the flyer?
Lecturer: In my view, ideally, it should be dreamed up by a team consisting of an advertising agent, a marketing manager and a sales executive.
Participant: It sounds interesting!

Marketing Manager: I think we should have a look at some of the flyers that were made by our competitors.
Sales Executive: In my opinion, we should look at flyers showing different coffee machines.
Marketing Manager: Yes, it’s a good idea. I’ve got two flyers here showing coffee machine models: the first one is about a Moulinex and the other one is a Grundig. What comes to your mind if you look at them?
Sales Executive: In my opinion, the product itself can be seen on both these flyers.
Marketing Manager: Anything else?
Sales Executive: The brand name and the main features of these machines are clearly described on the flyers.
Marketing Manager: Well, I think we should draw some conclusions of what we’ve seen today. All in all, we may say that we also need to show the product itself, the brand name and some of its typical features.

Tools for Communicating the Message of the Flyer
Lecturer: And now we’ll try to name some of the things that have to be done if we want to get the message of the flyer across to passers-by who may easily become our future clients.
Participant (at an in-service training): Could you tell us what the most important things are?
Lecturer: Yes, of course. Before anything else, let me make it clear that the flyers purpose is to sell. We want to highlight our problem-solving product or service. For example, listen to the following text: “ants cause a serious problem in your home. We can get rid of them in just a few hours. Use ‘Off!’ and you’ll see. No more ants in your home!
Participant: It sounded very logical!
Lecturer: Yes, it did. But what else could we mention about it?
Participant: I think it was very important that it was very easy to follow what said. Even a child would be able to follow it!
Lecturer: And this is the most important thing about it!
