The Role of Humour in Advertising
HR Assistant: Hello. Do sit down, please. Do you mind if I ask you some questions?
Applicant: No, that’s all right.
HR Assistant: I can see it in your CV that you like acting and singing. Is that right?
Applicant: Yes, it is. I’ve been the member of a drama group for 6 years.
HR Assistant: Do you think you could think up a humorous slogan now?
Applicant: Yes, of course. Does it matter for what kind of product?
HR Assistant: No, it doesn’t.
Applicant: OK! Well, here we go: “once upon a time Little Red Riding Hood walked into a big supermarket and decided to buy some kind of powder against food odour for her grandmother. While she was just entering the main entrance, she heard the following advertisement over the loudspeaker: ‘For Talcum – say Malcolm, for Talcum say Malcolm’ – I suffered from smelly feet until I discovered Malcolm’ Talcum Powder.”
HR Assistant: Oh, it sounds great! All right. Thank you for the interview. We’ll give you a call tomorrow. Do you think you could start working for us next Monday?

Job Interview at an Advertising Agency
HR Assistant: Hello. Do sit down, please. Do you mind if I ask you some questions?
Applicant: No, that’s all right.
HR Assistant: I can see it in your CV that you like playing basketball. Is that right?
Applicant: Yes, it is. I’ve been playing basketball for about 12 years.
HR Assistant: Do you like going out?
Applicant: Yes, I do. Actually I go out with my fiends every weekend. I think I’m fairly talkative, and I don’t like being on my own.
HR Assistant: If I asked you to describe your character, and you can only use a single sentence, what would you say?
Applicant: I would say I am a typical team worker who was born to cooperate with others. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that I like following orders.
HR Assistant: All right! Thanks a lot. I think we’ll give you a call tomorrow.

Presentation about Advertising - Recruitment
Advertising Agent: Hi everyone! Today I’d like to illustrate what advertising is about. First of all, let me ask you a question. Have you ever heard any funny slogans?
Student 1: Yes, I have. For example, I like this one: “hello Tosh, got a Toshiba?” My father told me this one a few years ago.
Student 2: I’ve also heard one. It sounds like this: “welcome to the Next Level”. It’s an advertisement of Sega Genesis – Game Gear.
Advertising Agent: Do you think you could make up a slogan now?
Student 3: I’ve got one on my mind: “Everyone wants Herbolife. Everyone wants to be healthy!”
Advertising Agent: Oh, I like this one, it sounds very good! Well, your homework for next time – which will be next week – is to think up as many slogans as you can. The winner will get a big box of chocolate from me!
