At the Information Science Lesson: Finding Your Way on a Home Page
Tom (13 years old): Mary, I’ve always wanted to ask you: are you good at finding your way on the Internet? You see, I haven’t got a computer at home; and I often feel I’ve got lost.
Mary: But Tom, it isn’t so complicated. For example, let me show you a web page I like. I always use Google as a search engine. Look at it! I type in “Labels Collector’s Corner”. And it only takes one second. You see, it’s a book review. The title of the book is “The Label Made Me Buy It”.
Tom: And what if I want to look at the links?
Mary: On one of the margins you can always find the contents that are related topics you can click on. And on the other margin, you can usually find the links. For example, let’s click on “The art of the Label”. You see? It’s so simple!
Tom: Thanks a lot. I think I’m getting used to it.

In-Service Training – PowerPoint Presentation for Shop Managers
Speaker: Today I’d like to give you an introduction into the pool of ideas that you can easily have access to any time whenever you log on.
Participant: Do you think it will be useful from a practical point of view?
Speaker: I’m sure it will be. Let me project the website of http://www.signindustry.com/tips/ for you. On this big screen on the left you an also follow the main points in my talk with the help of a PowerPoint presentation I’ve made for you. The first point is the following: ‘why do I need to make so much fuss about it?’ I hope you’ll be able to answer this question on your own in about 20 minutes.
Participant: What kind of tips can we get from the website that you’ve just mentioned?
Speaker: Very practical ones, in fact. For example, let’s look at the link entitled “Digital Signage”. One of the ads on this page tells us about ‘Super bright LEDs’. Just imagine you’d like to install these LEDs in your shop window. It’s just a click, and you’ve already placed an order. But my suggestion is that we should have a 10-minute break now, and then we can move on to some of the points that might be even more useful for you.

The Internet as a Source of Ideas for Shop Notices
Manager 1: Hello John! I haven’t heard from you for a long time!
Manager 2: Hi James! I’ve got some news for you!
Manager 1: Really? Tell me what it is.
Manager 2: Last weekend I decided to look at several shop notices on the Internet.
Manager 1: And? Did you find anything interesting?
Manager 2: Yes, I did. I found a website called http://signindustry.com.tips/. And I thought it was amazing! You know, I’ve never-ever received so many pieces of practical advice than last weekend.
Manager 1: Could you give me an example?
Manager 2: Well, let me mention some of the links on this website: 3-D signs, LED Displays, Painted Signs, LED Lighting, and Digital Imaging. Just to give you an idea, I’ll tell you about some of the details under the heading ‘Tips & Tricks’: cutting acrylic without chipping the edges, chalk alternative in snap line and cold lamination wrinkles.
Manager 1: Oh, it sounds very interesting. I think tonight I’ll log on, as well.
