Bags of films are made in New York, from this point of view perhaps the most famous city in the world. The city has own film festival, The New York Film Festival since 1962.
While the big-budget film industry has consolidated in Hollywood, New York is the capital of American independent cinema.
Woody Allen, the three-time Oscar-winning American film director, writer, actor and comedian is a dedicated New Yorker. He lives there and almost all of his films are devoted to his loved city. Most of his movies were shot in the Big Apple. He is one of the most widely respected and prolific filmmakers in the modern era.
The famous musical, West Side Story was set in the district Upper west side, which is New York’s old Latino area.
Greenwich village is a part of Manhattan. The legendary Blue Note jazz club is one of the many clubs in the area.
Iván Fischer, the leading conductor of Budapest Festival Orchestra is one of the most
adored guest artists in New York, he got an invitation to work with the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 2006.

The Guggenheim Museum is a museum for modern art. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the famous architect. Among others, the famous Russian painter, Wassiliy Kandinsky’s work can be found in the curled white ribbon looking building which is one of the city’s best-known museums.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) is located on the border of the theatre district and Upper midtown. It has great collection of paintings and photos from the 20th century
The Metropolitan museum of art called Met is one of the world's greatest museums, it features fascinating permanent exhibits, the most diverse collections.
New York’s other incredible museums include the Museum of Natural History. This institution brings all aspects of the natural sciences to life. Amongst its continuing attractions the visitors can see unique exhibitions about New York City’s plants, animals and rocks.
Other must-sees in New York are the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum and The National Museum of the American Indian.

The famous City University of New York (CUNY) is, with over 400,000 students, the third-largest university system in the United States. Its student body represents 145 countries.
Besides of eleven senior colleges and six community colleges, the Graduate School and University Center, the Graduate School of Journalism, the Law School operates in the CUNY.
Columbia University in Upper Manhattan was established in 1754 and is one of the oldest chartered institutions of higher education in the country. Great number of world-famous scholars and scientists do their research at Columbia.
New York University (NYU) is a major research university in Greenwich Village, located in downtown Manhattan.
New York is famous of its private high schools. Students who attend these expensive secondary schools - the tuition can run 12-30 thousand dollars a year - can be more academically educated and have a wider access to teachers.

The rough Dutch frontier trading post, where stage performances were forbidden, developed into a leading theatrical centre: New York became one of the cultural capitals of the world.
Theatre district is a part of Manhattan. The Broadway is world famous for its live performance of musicals. The district has an interesting place, the Times Square, which is a big meeting-place on New Years Eve. There is a special tradition: an apple is hoisted up a flagpole on the square.
Seeing a Broadway show is a common tourist activity a business generating billions of dollars annually. Broadway shows may run for long weeks, depending on ticket sales. The Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber at the Majestic Theatre became the longest running musical with 7,486 performances when it overtook Cats. Total Broadway attendance in 2005 was about 12 million, approximately the same as in London's West End theatre district.
