Helping a Hesitant Customer
Assistant: Can I help you, sir?
Customer: Oh, yes please. I’d like to buy a hairdryer for my wife, and I am not sure which one to choose. Here are these two, but I really don’t know which would be better.
Assistant: Well, if I were you, I would take the Grundig. It’s the most recent type. It is especially designed for drying fine hair. It is very efficient. Why don’t you just test both on your hands? Here.
Customer: Oh, yes, the Grundig is more pleasant. It is not burning hot.
Assistant: Still it dries as effectively as the burning hot one. And it cannot overheat either.
Customer: It sounds good.
Assistant: And it’s also small and light.
Customer: Do you think my wife would choose this one?
Assistant: I am pretty sure. It also looks better. Women care for this, too.
Customer: I’ll take it then. Thank you for your help.
Assistant: It’s my pleasure, sir.

Helping an Incompetent Customer
Assistant: May I help you, sir?
Customer: Yes please. I would like… well, I’m not exactly sure. Some sort of a screw.
Assistant: What would you need it for?
Customer: Well, my bed fell apart; I’d need to fix it.
Assistant: What is your bed made of, sir?
Customer: It’s one of those old types. It’s solid wood.
Assistant: Solid wood? Do you remember what size the original screws were?
Customer: About two inches and a half.
Assistant: I see. This is what you need then, sir. How many may I give you?
Customer: Well, my bed had six of these screws.
Assistant: May I encourage you take eight, just in case? If by any chance they did not fit, you can come back and we’ll exchange them.
Customer: I take eight then. Thanks a lot.
Assistant: You are absolutely welcome.
